Head-on collision leaves 1 dead, 2 hurt

NEW YORK (AP) -- Police say a head-on crash in Brooklyn left one man dead and two other people injured.

The collision happened late Saturday in Sheepshead Bay, on the Ocean Parkway.

Police say a BMW was heading south on the parkway when the driver lost control of the car, struck the center divider and crossed over it into oncoming traffic, where it hit a minivan. Police say all three people in the vehicles suffered serious body trauma.

The driver of the van, 23-year-old Jamal Iqual, was pronounced dead in Coney Island Hospital.

The driver of the BMW was taken to Kings County Hospital, where he's listed in stable condition. His passenger was taken to Lutheran Medical Center, where she's listed in stable condition.

No arrests have been made. The investigation continues.

Amish boy, 4, drowns in pond on family farm

WHEELER (AP) -- State police say a 4-year-old Amish boy has drowned in his family's farm pond in the Steuben County town of Wheeler.

Police say the boy drowned at about 10:30 a.m. Saturday. His name was not released.

State police at Bath say the boy didn't know how to swim. Authorities don't suspect any wrongdoing in the case.
