Robert E. Glowny of Cheektowaga, a retired millwright at General Mills, died Sunday in Mercy Hospital. He was 83.
Born in Buffalo, Mr. Glowny worked at the cereal plant for 47 years until his retirement in 1995. While at General Mills, he was credited and compensated for numerous improvements that he suggested be made to the machinery over the years.
During his younger years, Mr. Glowny worked as a professional photographer. His passion for photography remained with him throughout his life.
He was a member of Our Lady of Help of Christians Chapel Seniors and served on the Cheektowaga-Sloan School Board from 1970 to 1980.
Mr. Glowny also was a member and past president of the William Street Taxpayers Association and was a member of other civic groups in his community.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, the former Mary Lesinski; two daughters, Kathleen Stachewicz and Deborah; and a son, Timothy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, 950 Losson Road, Cheektowaga.
