David N. Wilson, former Teacher of the Year Dec. 27, 1932 -- April 27, 2012

David N. Wilson, a retired Buffalo teacher and former Teacher of the Year, died Friday in his Amherst home. He was 79.

Born in Buffalo, Mr. Wilson was a graduate of Holy Angels High School. He earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Canisius College and was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War.

He taught social studies at School 37/Futures Academy for 18 years and then at Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts for 12 1/2 years.

In 1972, while he was teaching at School 37, he was honored as Teacher of the Year by the district.

Mr. Wilson retired in 1990. He enjoyed traveling.

Survivors include two sisters, Mary Ellen Mosman and Elizabeth Meredith.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 1520 E. Delavan Ave.
