Thompson continues making the rounds

It's not hard to miss Antoine M. Thompson these days -- that's because the former Democratic state senator from Buffalo is everywhere.

Whether it's looking very "senatorial" at last month's St. Patrick's Day parade, or as recently as his Tuesday appearance before the County Legislature's Economic Development Committee, Thompson is making as many public appearances as when he was in office.

Indeed, sources say Thompson all but announced his Senate candidacy against incumbent Democrat Timothy M. Kennedy a few days ago in a meeting of the Black Leadership Forum. The sources said he told the gathering he had learned from the mistakes that led to his defeat by Republican Mark J. Grisanti in 2010, and wanted another chance to represent Buffalo in Albany.

Kennedy has proven a prodigious fund raiser. And he has strong support in the party, especially in the camp of Rep. Brian Higgins, so Thompson faces a tough challenge should he opt for the race.

Thompson has always insisted he is concentrating on his private sector endeavors. But his relentless public sector appearances and his own comments are doing nothing to dampen speculation about a comeback attempt.
