Richard A. Nocek, longtime social studies teacher at Heim Middle School in the Williamsville Central School District, died Friday in Beechwood Continuing Care, Getzville. He was 67.
Born in Dunkirk and raised in Sheridan, Mr. Nocek was a 1961 graduate of Dunkirk High School and St. Bonaventure University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in social studies. He also earned a master's degree from the University at Buffalo.
An Amherst resident, Mr. Nocek was honored by the Amherst Jaycees as the Outstanding Young Educator of the Year in 1969. He retired after teaching 42 years at Heim.
Mr. Nocek was an avid skier and boater.
Survivors include three sisters, Marie Frankel, Diane Hill and Cynthia; and two brothers, Leo J. Jr. and David.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in St. Christopher Catholic Church, 2660 Niagara Falls Blvd., Town of Tonawanda.
