Theater, music to rock Canalside; Summer schedule runs late June through August

Canalside will be thumping this summer, with a variety of cultural events planned for the increasingly hip outdoor venue.

This month, local arts advocate and Canalside cultural programmer Mark Goldman announced the schedule for a series of theater and music events to be performed at 7:30 p.m. on Sundays and Mondays throughout the summer.

The schedule, by no means the only cultural activity slated for Canalside in the coming months, is as follows:

>Theater and comedy

July 8 -- "Canalside Comedy" with the Eclectic Improv Company.

July 22 -- "Bread and Onions," billed as "an original musical play by Joey Giambra about the Italian-American experience on Buffalo's waterfront."

July 29 -- "Blanche Dubois in the Ruins," produced by Torn Space Theater.

Aug. 5 -- TBA

Aug. 12 -- Paulo Iacona's Buffalo Ballroom Theater.

Aug. 19 -- Puppeteer Michele Costa's "Theater Figuren." (starts at 6 p.m.)

June 25 -- The Journeyman, a musical project of the Ujima Theatre Collective.

July 2 -- Harder Bop, "a post-modern bop sextet featuring original contemporary classical music."

July 9 -- The Genkin Philharmonic.

July 23 -- "Boppin' at the Ruins" featuring the Bobby Militello Sextet.

July 30: El Grupo Variedad's "La Musica Traditional de Puerto Rico."

Aug. 8 -- Babik.

Aug. 20 -- Rhythmic Landscapes.
