Track meets off and running

Sean Phillips of East Aurora ran a 4:40 to outlean freshman Mitchell Daddario of Sweet Home in one of many exciting races at the inaugural Panther Invitational Saturday at Sweet Home. Jordan Kihl of Lancaster won the shot and discus. Brian Bannister of Sweet Home took both hurdles and was on the winning 4x400 relay.

The East Aurora girls won eight of 19 events including the 4x800, 4x400 and sprint medley relay.

Marquel Jackson of Cheektowaga ran a meet record 10.88 in the 100 meters to lead Cheektowaga to the title of the Maroon Classic, hosted by Eden. Orchard Park won the girls team title. Shannon Smith of the Quakers won the 800 and was on the winning 4x400 and 4x800. Jackson and Smith were named the boys and girls meet MVPs.

The Clarence boys and girls swept the team titles of the Fleet Feet Buffalo Public Schools Invitational at All High Stadium. Brian Cummiskey of the Red Devils won the 200 and 400. Brandon Joyce of Niagara Falls won the long, triple and high jumps. Kristen George won both hurdle events for the Clarence girls. Kaitlyn Lopez of Immaculata won all three jumps.


Nardin lax opens with win

Senior midfielder Meaghan McKenna had seven goals, some in transition, some off the draw, to lead Nardin to a season-opening 15-14 win over St. Mary's in a girls lacrosse game played at Keysa Town Park in Lancaster.

Eliza Kay and Tori Lester had six goals each as Buffalo Seminary moved to 3-0 with a 17-6 win over Sacred Heart.

Leah Bellus, Addie Ohler and Katie Daminski had two goals each as East Aurora beat West Seneca West, 8-7.


Timon's Fields had 9 goals

Sophomore Connor Fields connected for nine goals as visiting Timon/St. Jude beat Nichols, 23-7, in Monsignor Martin Association boys lacrosse. Fields leads the Tigers in scoring with 21 goals. "He's one of our top guys, he can really score, that's his thing," said coach Mike Burke. "He's really good off the ball, can shoot and find the open lanes."

J.D. Recor tallied six goals and three assists and Layne Collins added four goals and four assists as Timon moved to 3-0 in the league. Timon led, 18-2, at halftime.
