Eating the Lotus
EOTO has been bringing its heady blend of live dub-step, improvisation, trance and trip-hop to Buffalo over the past several years. But when the band visits the Town Ballroom (681 Main St.) at 8 p.m. Thursday, even fans who have packed previous Buffalo shows will be in for a surprise.
The band will be unveiling "The Lotus Experience," a blend of sound, lighting and staging that will allow the musicians to perform in the middle of a 3-D lotus flower.
Tickets for EOTO, with guests Kraddy, are $15 (box office, Tickets.com).
Celebrating 4/2 0
Festival 420 -- its name culled from the date, 4/2 0, which UrbanDictionary.com defines as "a universal, unofficial symbol for the use and appreciation of marijuana In fact, 4/2 0 (April 20) has come to be known in certain circles as 'Marijuana Appreciation Day' " -- takes place at 8 tonight in the Forvm (4224 Maple Road). Don't get the wrong idea -- this is all about the music, with roots-soul-funk collective Crit's Juke Joint presiding over a bill that also includes the Maniacs and What the Folk.
Duke's Bohemian Grove Bar (253 Allen St.) has its own 4/2 0 party with Funktional Flow and What It Is Live at 10 tonight.
A 4/2 0 party is at Mr. Goodbar (1110 Elmwood Ave.), as well. This one kicks off at 11 tonight with Buffalo's Free Henry! and Rochester's Occupanther.
The annual Bob Dylan Imitator's Contest -- started by the late, lamented founder of the Buffalo Song Project, Michael Meldrum -- is at 8 p.m. Thursday in Nietzsche's (248 Allen St.). Sign-up starts at 7 p.m. and prizes will be awarded.
