Helen Y. Kusio, of Amherst, active in civic groups and at the Newman Center at the University at Buffalo, died Thursday in the Center for Hospice & Palliative Care, Cheektowaga, after battling pancreatic cancer for more than 11 years. She was 58.
Born in New York City, Ms. Kusio was a 1988 UB graduate. She was a chartered life underwriter and a financial planner.
She was president of the Charter Oaks and Chappelle Villas Condominiums and was active on many committees. She also was the first president of the Kiwanis Club of the Boulevard in Amherst.
She was music director at the 9 a.m. Mass at the UB Newman Center and took part in many activities there.
Surviving are her mother, Myroslawa; a sister, Anita Seahaj; and a brother, Theodore.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Newman Center, 495 Skinnersville Road, Amherst.
