Dudek settles for 1-hitter
Brian Dudek of the St. Mary's baseball team had his bid for a perfect game broken up with one out in the seventh in the Lancers' 11-1 win over Pioneer at the Cal Ripken Tournament in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The junior righty looked sharp while fanning 12.
"It was a little single up the middle, he was a little heartbroken, but what are you going to do?" said Lancers coach Mike Wagner. "He was really on, and everything we hit was falling."
In a second game, St. Mary's lost to St. Peter's of Staten Island, 3-2, in nine innings. J.D. Andresseen pitched five innings of one-hit relief while Dudek had a double among his two hits.
The Lancers take a 6-2 record into Tuesday's Monsignor Martin Association home opener against St. Francis at 4:15 p.m. St. Mary's started the season winning its first five games.
