HOLLANDER - Sandra We are sad to announce the passing of our mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, Sandra Hollander who slid safely into heaven on April 2, 2012. Born Sandra Hollander, September 27, 1959, she graduated from Kenmore West in 1977, completed her undergraduate degree at Indiana University and earned her masters degree at Canisius College. Sandy spent over 24 years as the softball coach of Buffalo State. She was one of the all-time winningest coaches in Division III softball history and received numerous awards and accolades. Her passion for the game was far exceeded by her passion for her son Alex and her infinite love for him. Above all else, Sandy wanted to be remembered as Alex's mom and then as aunt to her many nieces and nephews whom she greatly cherished.
Sandy was more than the softball coach and former athletic trainer; she was a life coach who was greatly respected and loved by her players, her staff and her peers. While tenacious on the field, perhaps her greatest talent was helping transform young high school girls into strong, successful women. Her quotation and personal mantra of "Don't waste a today" inspired many to become far more than they ever imagined possible. Sandy has been greeted at home plate by her mom Rosemary, and other beloved family members. She will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she has touched throughout her career, her family and friends and most especially by her 12 nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by Pat, Helen, Tom and Mr. Mike, and Patricia, Jorie and Jovin Jones. There will be a Campus Tribute honoring Sandy at the Buffalo State Athletic Arena at 1:00 PM on Sunday, April 15. Friends are invited to visit with family at an open house on Sunday from 4-9 PM at 47 Knowlton in Kenmore. A Catholic Mass celebrating Sandy's life will be held at 9:15 AM on Monday, April 16 at St. Paul's in Kenmore. Instead of flowers, please consider a donation to Buffalo Hospice in honor of Sandy's mom, Rose. The Alex Hollander Education Fund has been established for her son. Checks, may be made payable to Buffalo State Foundation, Buffalo State Athletics, c/o Tom Koller, Associate Athletics Director, 1300 Elmwood Ave., Buffalo, NY 14222. We love you Sandy. From your loving family, Alex Hollander, Tom and Judy Hollander, Michael Hollander and Lynn Becker, Jodi Hollander Correa, Lisa and Scott Dreyer, Trish and Aaron Malys and Chris and Julie Hollander.
