Antenna for radio system to be built near compost plant
LOCKPORT -- One of the new antennas for Niagara County's new emergency radio system will be erected next to the City of Lockport composting plant.
County Manager Jeffrey M. Glatz said last week the county agreed to build the antenna at the composting plant after the city rejected its request to build next to the water tower in Outwater Park.
The Common Council and Mayor Michael W. Tucker feared that a 180-foot-high antenna, surrounded by a 51-by-41-foot enclosure, would have harmed the park's aesthetics.
The composting plant antenna will need to be higher, because the plant is below the Niagara Escarpment and is about 100 feet lower than the park. However, the West Jackson Street plant is in a remote area of the city.
