Fund to aid crash victims' children

The family of the two cousins killed Saturday morning on the Kensington Expressway has established a memorial fund to provide scholarships for the men's children.

Orlando "Eric" Anderson, 37, a rental agent from Buffalo, was the father of three children who live in Rochester: Onajae, 9; Oniya, 7; and August, 3. A funeral for him will be at noon Saturday in Friendship Baptist Church, 402 Clinton St.

Thomas Johnson, 42, a carpenter from Cleveland, had five children. His funeral will be today in Cleveland.

"Between the two of them, they left eight kids," said Stanley Billups, who is Anderson's uncle and Johnson's cousin. "They won't have a father to help them with their education."

Donations can be sent to the Orlando Anderson and Thomas Johnson Memorial Fund, M&T Bank, 447 William St., Buffalo, NY14204.

Anderson and Johnson died when their SUV was struck head-on at about 4:45 a.m. Saturday by a pickup truck going the wrong way on the inbound Kensington Expressway, between East Utica and Best streets.

Matthew Ruckdaschel, 24, of Getzville, the driver of the pickup, remained in critical condition Thursday in Erie County Medical Center.

Charges were pending.

Police were awaiting blood tests results, which might not be available for weeks, to determine whether Ruckdaschel was drinking before the accident.
