Richard W. Tanner, fought in Battle of the Bulge ; June 4, 1920 -- Jan. 18, 2011

Richard W. Tanner of Cheektowaga, an Army veteran of World War II, died Tuesday in Veteran Affairs Medical Center, Buffalo. He was 90.

Born in Buffalo, Mr. Tanner was a graduate of Bennett High School. He was a first sergeant with the Army during World War II and participated in the Battle of the Bulge, fought in the winter of 1944-45.

Mr. Tanner had worked as a salesman for Barnes Group Inc. and for Angert Auto Parts in Buffalo. He also had worked as a machinist at Westinghouse Electric Corp.

Survivors include his wife, the former Bernadine Meyer; and two sons, Richard W. Tanner Jr. and Ronald E. Graham.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. today in Beach-Tuyn Funeral Home, 5541 Main St., Williamsville.
