Dr. Lorenzo T. Teruel of Cheektowaga, a retired head and neck surgeon, died Dec. 30 in Iloilo City, Philippines. He was 77.
Born in Moises Padilla, Philippines, Dr. Teruel earned his medical degree at the University of the Philippines College of Medicine. He interned at St. Mary's Hospital in Waterbury, Conn., and Easton (Pa.) Hospital. He completed his residency at Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
Dr. Teruel was a specialist in otolaryngology at several local hospitals, including Sisters Hospital, Women & Children's Hospital and Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He also taught as a clinical assistant professor at the University at Buffalo Medical School.
Dr. Teruel was a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and an active member of the University of the Philippines Medical Alumni Society in America of Western New York and the Filipino-American Association.
His wife, the former Teresita Nunez, died in 2004.
Survivors include two sons, Dr. Lawrence N. and Michael; and a daughter, Mary F.
A memorial Mass will be offered at 9 a.m. Monday in Queen of Martyrs Catholic Church, 180 George Urban Blvd., Cheektowaga.
