STUDENT ART EXHIBIT: Cheektowaga Central School District Art Exhibit, featuring artwork of students in kindergarten to grade 12, opens with a 6 p.m. reception Thursday and continues through Jan. 29 in the Paul William Beltz Family Art Gallery at Villa Maria College, 240 Pine Ridge Road, Cheektowaga. Opening remarks by Cheektowaga School Superintendent Dennis Kane will be followed by scholarship awards from Villa Maria.

PRESENTATION: The Western New York Coalition of Blacks in the Courts will present its annual Martin L. King Jr. program "What Would Martin Say?" at 12:30 p.m. Friday in the Ceremonial Courtroom of Erie County Hall, 92 Franklin St. The guest speaker is the Rev. Timothy Brown, Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Niagara Falls. The event is free and open to the public.

SWIM AND CINEMA: The Ken-Ton Family YMCA is hosting a Swim and Cinema event for children of all ages from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Ken-Ton YMCA Pool, 535 Belmont Ave., Town of Tonawanda. Children will swim from 4:30 to 5:30, followed by a viewing of the movie "How to Train Your Dragon." This event is free and open to the public. GRIEF GROUP MEETING: Journey Toward Hope, a general grief group open to men and women who have lost a loved one or friend, will meet from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Circle of Daughters, 4263 St. Francis Drive, Hamburg. CHILI COOK-OFF: Ten Lives Club cat rescue and adoption group is holding its second annual Chili Cook-off Contest fundraiser from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the West End Hotel, 350 Union St., Hamburg. Last year, 38 contestants entered the contest, and this year's competitors are limited to 40. Contestant candidates are urged to call 646-5577 or visit tenlivesclub.com. First prize is $100. The cost of admission is $6 per person.
