Movie time at the Riv
It's wonderful to see that the grand Riviera Theatre (67 Webster St., North Tonawanda) is showing movies on a recurring basis these days on its really big screen.
At 5 p.m. Saturday, the Riv presents a free screening of the locally made documentary "Together We Stand: The Story of the 1958 UB Football Team." The film shares the inspiring story of the sacrifice made by the '58 Bulls team that gave up the chance to play in the Tangerine Bowl after going 8-1 because it meant that their African-American athletes could not play.
The tone turns much lighter on Sunday, when the Riv hosts a tribute to the late Leslie Nielsen with a double feature of the hilarious "Airplane" and "The Naked Gun" starting at 6 p.m. Admission is $6. For information on either movie, call 692-2413.
Happy birthday to the King
Hard to think of him as a senior citizen, but Elvis Presley would have turned 76 on Saturday. Join our very own Terry Buchwald as he channels the King in song and dance during a tribute to Presley that doubles as a benefit for Hospice. It starts at 6 p.m. Saturday in Michael's Banquet Hall (4885 Southwestern Blvd., Hamburg) and will have raffles, auctions and food, too. Tickets at the door are $15. Call 686-9884.
