Two hurt as truck with poles rolls

Two National Grid workers who were hauling utility poles suffered minor injuries when they rolled their truck Monday morning on Lewiston-Cambria Townline Road (Route 429).

The driver told police he fell asleep.

Officers closed Townline Road after the 10:30 a.m. crash, and it remained closed until about 3:30 p.m., while crews cleaned up hydraulic fluid and righted the truck, Lewiston Police Sgt. Frank Previte said.

Previte said the approximately 60-foot-long truck and trailer was traveling south and started drifting. When the passenger noticed, he yelled, and the driver overcorrected, going into the northbound lane in the 4500 block, then flipping.

The driver, Brendan Kennedy, 30, of Lancaster, was taken to Erie County Medical Center, Buffalo, with head and facial injuries. His passenger, Gary Bottenfield, 44, of Niagara Falls, was taken to Mount St. Mary's Hospital.
