Fred Charles Mathewson, involved in construction work for several decades, died Monday. He was 83.
Born in Buffalo, he joined the Navy during WWII when he was 17. He left the Navy as an electrician petty officer first class.
Mr. Mathewson worked in construction and over the course of several decades was involved in residential and commercial construction both in Western New York and the Western United States. In that time, he worked on the Niagara Power Project as well as directing construction of the University of Wyoming Agricultural Building in Laramie.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion and a life member of the Four Seasons Sportsman Club.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Grace Favata, as well as his children Mark, Rick, Chris, Lorri, Jeff, Kevin and Debbie Sprague.
A celebration of his life will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Four Seasons Sportsman Club.
