Erie County officials are urging people who might qualify to apply for the federal Home Energy Assistance Program.
HEAP is a federally funded program designed to help families with the rising costs of energy. It is administered in Erie County by the Erie County Department of Social Services and the county Department of Senior Services. The HEAP income guidelines are as follows: For a household of one person, monthly income must be at or below $1,963; for a household of two, $2,567; a household of three, $3,172; four persons, $3,776; five, $4,380; six, $4,984; seven, $5,097; eight, $5,210.
In addition to the HEAP office at 478 Main St., HEAP applications are available at Erie County legislative offices, various community centers and National Fuel Gas customer assistance centers.
Senior citizens and households that received HEAP last year can apply for the upcoming program by mail.
Erie County residents are encouraged to call 858-7870 or 858-7644, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, to request an application or obtain information.
