Enrica Ciccarelli, a glamorous pianist from Italy, is en route to Buffalo to join the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra for a performance of Grieg's Piano Concerto. Ciccarelli, who studied piano and organ at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan and also studied at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, has appeared with many of the top orchestras of Europe and is now beginning to perform more in America.
"Grieg's Piano Concerto will come alive with Enrica at the piano," promises BPO Music Director JoAnn Falletta. It will be fun to see what Ciccarelli can do. Meanwhile, you can check out Ciccarelli's schedule and hear her playing Rachmaninoff at her Web site, www.enricaciccarelli.com.
The concert is doubly interesting because it also includes Dohnanyi's Symphonic Minutes and Suite in F# minor. Both these pieces are being recorded live for release on a CD in the orchestra's ongoing series on the Naxos label.
This romantic and exciting concert takes place at 8 p.m. Saturday and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Tickets start at $29.50. For information, call 885-5000.
