Downtown Buffalo's holiday season will kick off Nov. 23 with Buffalo Sabres goalie Ryan Miller lighting the Christmas tree at Rotary Rink.
Miller will team with Santa Claus for the annual tree lighting ceremony and fireworks display at 5 p.m. at the Fountain Plaza outdoor skating rink. The rink will open for free public skating starting at 4 p.m., and Santa and his elves will welcome guests at the rink from 6 to 8 p.m.
Following the tree lighting, Miller also will preside over an exclusive "meet and greet" in Shea's Performing Arts Center's Smith Theater to benefit his "Saves for Cancer" campaign and "Carly's Club."
The collaboration among Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Buffalo Place and Shea's will give 100 guests a chance to meet Miller and members of the Radio City Rockettes. Tickets for the event are priced at $100 each.
Miller said the small-scale event will be a fun way to jump-start the holiday season, while "raising awareness and providing resources for those suffering the ill effects and life-altering consequences of childhood cancer."
Tickets to the Miller/Rockettes reception also include admission to the 7 p.m. Radio City Christmas Spectacular show at Shea's. Purchase information for the limited event is available through Shea's Group Sales Office at 829-1154.
Roswell Park will also unveil its new, limited-edition holiday ornaments to benefit Carly's Club during the Rotary Rink festivities.
