This Day in Buffalo Sports History

Oct. 29, 1973 -- Plenty of people remember this particular Bills game, which they won by a 23-14 score.

It was the first Monday Night Football game in Buffalo history, as Frank Gifford, Howard Cosell and Don Meredith came to the town for the game. That added to the carnival atmosphere. O.J. Simpson did the rest. The Bills' running back ran for 157 yards on 39 carries and two first-quarter touchdowns as he went past the 1,000-yard mark for the season after only seven games.

The Bills were 5-2 after the win and headed to the playoffs. Simpson would run for about another 1,000 yards in the second half of the season.
