Supper Club returns

Sample Restaurant's (242 Allen St.) Supper Club is back after a summer hiatus. The affair is always held on the last Sunday of the month -- this Sunday marks the October celebration. The meal will feature pumpkin soup with dumplings, rabbit tenderloin, housemade sausage and veal schnitzel roulade with various beers and ciders. Butter-crusted pear is the dessert.

The cost is $50 per person; call 883-1675 for reservations.

Sharing the pie

Learn how to make an apple pie and then donate that pie to the City Mission of Buffalo for Thanksgiving dinner. That's the inspiration of Wayne Watson of Auburn Watson Culinary Arts Center, 3295 Walden Ave.

Here's the drill: Attend a class presented by pastry chefs Robin Kurss, Kristin Saperston, Christine Storfer or Cindy Richert; then give your creation away to that worthy cause.

Classes are free, but preregistration is required. Classes will be held on the following dates and times: from 10 a.m. to noon or 1 to 2 p.m. Nov. 1; from 10 a.m. to noon or 1 to 2 p.m. Nov. 8. Call 818-1140.

Unique wine tasting

If you hurry, you can attend an interesting wine tasting at 6:30 tonight at the Hauptman-Woodward Atrium, 700 Ellicott St. The tasting will be led by Georg Riedel, president of Riedel Crystal; the objective will be to determine how much difference a glass can make to the taste enjoyment of wine.

The tasting ticket is $150; proceeds will be donated to the Hauptman-Woodward biomedical research facility. Call 898-8597.
