Ronald R. Koban, a retired city teacher, died unexpectedly Sunday in his home. He was 74.
A city native, Mr. Koban attended Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic School and was a member of the second graduating class of Bishop Duffy High School, now Niagara Catholic High School. He received a bachelor's degree in teaching from the University at Buffalo and a master's degree from Niagara University.
After college, Mr. Koban taught social studies for 33 years at LaSalle Junior High School until he retired in 1989 at age 55. He also had been the owner of Koban's Food and Drink, a Niagara Street business, since 1980.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and served as the church's organist from 1955 to 1987.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, the former Dorothy J. Misch; two daughters, Marsha Frost and Ronda Sortore; and his mother, Mary V. Jannotte.
Prayers will be said at 9 a.m. today in Labuda Funeral Home, 356 Portage Road, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 in St. Mary of the Cataract Catholic Church, 259 Fourth St.
