>Public meeting set Thursday on Artpark expansion project

LEWISTON -- The state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation will hold a public information meeting Thursday on the first phase of $4.5 million project to expand and upgrade Artpark's outdoor amphitheater.

The meeting runs from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Village of Lewiston Red Brick School gym, 145 N. Fourth St.
Artpark President George Osborne said that if approved, no work is expected to begin on this project until the end of August and then be completed before the start of the 2010 Artpark season. The project is expected to include a new or expanded stage, seating and viewing areas, parking and access roads, concession facilities, restrooms and support facilities.

Anyone who cannot attend may submit written comments prior to Nov. 9 to State Parks, in care of Karen Terbush, Environmental Analyst 2, Agency Building 1, 17th Floor, Empire State Plaza, Albany, NY 12238, or send an e-mail to karen.terbush@oprhp.state.ny.us.

>Cuomo will conduct community forum today

NIAGARA FALLS -- State Attorney General Andrew M. Cuomo will hold a communitywide forum at noon today in Conference Center Niagara Falls.

The forum is open to the public and will include topics such as civil and labor rights, health care, consumer fraud, the environment, housing and student loans. The meeting is part of Cuomo's Community Partnership Initiative.

The conference center is at 101 Old Falls St.

>Historical Society to hold Oktoberfest

NEWFANE -- The Newfane Historical Society will present the popular German band The Frankfurters during its Oktoberfest on Saturday.

The fundraiser opens its doors at 5 p.m. at the Olcott Fire Hall.

The event also will feature a German buffet, cash bar, 50-50 split club, basket raffle and silent auction.

Tickets are $25 and are available at Peterson Drugs, from a society member or by calling Joanne at 434-2316.
