Kimmie's new home

Kimmie Kimmie Meissner, the former world figure skating champion who has numerous family connections in Western New York, has a new coach, a new residence and she hopes a new direction in her skating.

Meissner, 19, has moved from Maryland to Florida. She trains in Coral Springs under coach Richard Callaghan with help from Todd Eldredge, a six-time U.S. champion who was coached by Callaghan.

Meissner had been struggling on the ice during the last year. She tells the Miami Herald that the move and new support team have put her back on the right track.

"Mr. Callaghan has helped me rediscover my love for the sport," she said. "It's fun to come to practice and appreciate all the reasons I'm a skater. I feel like myself again."

Meissner will be competing at Skate America in Everett, Wash., from Friday through Sunday.
