>Kansas parole 'absconder' caught in Allegany County

WELLSVILLE -- State police in Allegany County have caught up with a man wanted by the Kansas prison system who was thought to have fled to Western New York.

Daniel J. Winkler, 36, who had said he would not go back to prison and was willing to shoot any officer, was believed to be with a friend in the West Clarksville area of Allegany County. He was arrested by troopers Sunday and placed in the county jail.

Winkler is considered an "absconder" from parole supervision in Kansas.


>Cadillac stolen by man who took keys from driver

A woman about to enter her car was surprised by a man who demanded the keys and then drove off in her vehicle, according to a Buffalo police report.

The woman said her 1999 Cadillac was taken late Saturday from Phelps Street and Fillmore Avenue by a man about 6 feet tall wearing a gray hooded sweat shirt.
