Time flies when you're having fun.
One week to go for Section VI. After this weekend, one year to go until the rivalry games.
Time to pick a winner (rivalry edition):
The games are in order of the results of a poll we posted earlier this week which asked what rivalry would provide the best football game this year.
And now, the non-rivalry edition:
My votes? I'm hoping to be at a game Friday night, and it will probably be Lancaster-Depew. I wrote earlier this week about liking the new playoff format.
The rivalry games: Depew, because the Wildcats seem to be on a roll (both this season and in the rivalry game); West Seneca West, because the Indians are due, they've got a rivalry streak going, and this game really is their season (WSE is in the playoffs); Fredonia and North Tonawanda (check the polls); Medina (just a hunch & Mustangs are at home); Kenmore West (Blue Devils having a good season & they had a win streak end last season) and Frontier (will AA South come out of this weekend undefeated against non-AA South teams?).
Non-rivalry games: I expect Lackawanna to keep rolling and I think Sweet Home will be too much for what should be a great environment at Strider Field.
Here's how the voting went for last weekend: The closest game had the biggest margin, somewhat strangely: 88.3 percent of 103 voters were correct in picking Iroquois in their squeaker at West Seneca East. North Tonawanda had a bigger win on the field than in the polls (61.6 percent of 86 voters picked NT over St. Joe's); Orchard Park backed up the 84.2 percent of 133 voters who picked the Quakers over Lancaster; and the most popular game to vote on had the closest vote -- 56.8 of 148 voters picked Canisius over St. Francis.
