This Day in Buffalo Sports History

   Colgate_2 Oct. 16, 1937 -- Consider yourself an old-timer if you know what Roesch Memorial Stadium. It actually was the name of War Memorial Stadium when it first opened in 1937.

   The new facility hosted an intersectional college football game on that day, as Colgate lost to Tulane, 7-6. (Photo at right courtesy of The same two teams played in Yankee Stadium in 1934. It's fair to say the sports landscape has changed a great deal since that contest was played.
