A women's tennis team from Buffalo recently placed third in the USTA League Adult National Championships in Tucson, Ariz.

Buffalo defeated Boston, 3-2 in the third-place match after losing to Seattle in the semifinals.

The team is captained by Ann D'Aquino and features Cheryl Athoe, Alice Curtis, Donna Decarolis, Annie Grace, Megan Gollwitzer, Carrie Hamlett, Amy Jacobs, Leslie Kellogg, Alissa Lange, Jennifer Ruggiero and Christy Walsh.


The Kenmore East Football Alumni Reunion will be held Saturday during the Kenmore East-Kenmore West football game at Dick "Sparky" Adams Field.

All former players, coaches, cheerleaders and Blue-Gold diggers are welcome.

There will be a coffee reception in the Kenmore East cafeteria at 10 a.m. Registration will be held at 11:30 a.m. at the field, followed by lunch provided by Ted's.

The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held at halftime. Among those who will be inducted this year is former coach Lou Reuter.

A postgame party will be held at Caputi's Pub on Sheridan Drive in the Town of Tonawanda following the game. Cost for the entire day's activities is $25 per person.

If you are interested in attending the Hall of Fame induction dinner at 6 p.m. Friday at Banchetti's Banquet Facility on North French Road in Amherst, call Jim Dunnigan at 874-8402. Cost for the induction dinner is also $25.


BASEBALL: The Buffalo School of Baseball and New Era Park will hold a two-hour hitting clinic for ages 8-11 on Saturday from 12 to 2 p.m. Call 681-3001 or visit

BASKETBALL: Players are needed for the North Cheektowaga Youth Basketball League, ages 8-15 among boys and girls. Registration will be on Oct. 24 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Maryvale High School Cafe.
