>Grand Island man dies in Whitehaven Road crash

A Grand Island man died Sunday after he lost control of his car, which crossed two lanes of traffic and landed in a ditch before flipping.

The man was driving on Whitehaven Road on Grand Island at about 3:30 p.m., when he lost control of the car. The victim, whose identity was not released Sunday evening, was pinned beneath the wreckage.

Grand Island Fire Company summoned help from the Sheridan Park Volunteer Fire Department extrication team to help free the man. Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.

Erie County sheriff's accident investigators also assisted.

>Motorcyclist in collision is in serious condition

CAMBRIA -- A Town of Niagara man was listed in serious condition Sunday evening after suffering injuries on his motorcycle Saturday.

Anthony M. Ross, 22, remains in Erie County Medical Center, Buffalo, where he was taken Saturday by Mercy Flight after his motorcycle was struck on Route 31 by a vehicle that was trying to turn left onto Old Shawnee Road, according to Niagara County sheriff's deputies.

The driver of the vehicle, Kenneth W. Hawkins, 53, of Sanborn, was cited for failure to yield the right of way. He was taken to Lockport Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries.

>Man robbed of $300 at East Ferry and Purdy

A man told Northeast District police he was robbed at East Ferry and Purdy streets at 2 p.m. Sunday.

The victim, whose age was not released, told police the robber approached him and demanded money, saying he would blow his head off.

The robber, who made off with $300, had his hand in his front pants pocket during the robbery, the victim told police.

>Two say shots fired at car shattered window

Two men driving near the intersection of Hertel Avenue and Military Road late Saturday night told police someone in another vehicle fired two shots at their car, shattering a driver's side window. Neither man was injured.

The incident happened at about 11:55 p.m. at Hertel and Jasper Parrish Drive, according to a police report.

The assailant was in a silver car, possibly a Chevrolet Malibu, victims told police.
