One has to wonder just what their kids will end up doing. With parents like Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks, my money's on at least one of the two offspring ending up a musician. After all, it was in the blood long before it even reached the ears.
When Tedeschi and Trucks aren't touring -- which ain't often -- their family makes its home on the St. John's River in Jacksonville, Fla. It was this rolling body of water that inspired the title of Tedeschi's latest effort, "Back to the River," which will be released Oct. 28.
That album -- like all of Tedeschi's work, a stirring blend of soul, blues, folk, country, funk and rock -- finds the singer and guitarist solidifying her songwriting strengths in collaborations with the likes of her husband Trucks, Gary Louris of the Jayhawks, Tony Joe White and Sonya Kitchell.
Expect to hear plenty of "Back to the River's" magic when Tedeschi arrives with her band for a show in the University at Buffalo Center for the Arts at 8 p.m. Tuesday. In an effort to "keep it in the family," the folks at the Center for the Arts are offering a savings incentive when you purchase a package including tickets to Tedeschi's Tuesday evening show and the Derek Trucks Band performance scheduled for Nov. 2.
