Woman fatally injured as vehicle lands in pond

WEST LINCOLN, Ont. -- A 61-year-old woman from West Lincoln was injured fatally about 4:30 p.m. Thursday when her vehicle crashed and landed in a pond off Canborough Road, Niagara Regional Police said.

The victim, whose name is being withheld pending notification of family, lost control while attempting to pass another vehicle and swerved to avoid a head-on collision; her vehicle hit a barrier, became airborne and landed in the pond. Although emergency crews were able to free her from the wreckage, she died later in Hamilton General Hospital.

Catholic school student tied to stabbing attempt

PORT COLBORNE, Ont. -- A Lakeshore Catholic School student was arrested Wednesday for attempting to stab another student, Niagara Regional Police said.

The suspect, whose name was withheld because of his age, was charged with two counts of assault with a weapon and one count of uttering death threats. He was later released.

Police, who were summoned to the school after the attempted stabbing, said two other students face school disciplinary action in the disturbance.

Raid results in arrest in child porn case

NIAGARA FALLS, Ont. -- A Niagara Falls man arrested Wednesday distributed child pornography over the Internet, Niagara Regional Police said.

Darcy A. Wiley, 35, of Buchanan Avenue was charged with possession and distribution of child pornography. His arrest followed a two-month investigation, police said. Police said they raided Wiley's residence and seized computer components and other evidence.
