This Day in Buffalo Sports History

Oct. 9, 1970 -- It's the eve of the Sabres' first regular season, but general manager/coach Punch Imlach keeps trying to improve the team before Opening Night. Buffalo purchases goalie Dave Dryden from the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Dryden had played four games as a member of the AHL Buffalo Bisons in the 1964-65 season. He mostly was known as Ken's brother, but was a pretty good goallie in his own right. He was the number one goalie in Buffalo in 1973-74, and then jumped to the Chicago Cougars of the World Hockey Association.
