>District making headway on roof repairs at 3 sites
Roof repair work is under way at three Amherst district schools, including repairs from damage caused by a hailstorm in June.
School Business Administrator Gregory Kern on Tuesday provided the School Board an update on roofing projects at Amherst High School, Amherst Middle School and Windermere Boulevard Elementary School. Kern said that the replacement of the roof at sections of the middle school, including the northwest wing and the music wing, has been completed and that work crews are beginning work on the auditorium roof.
The middle school roof was peppered with 1,200 to 1,500 holes when hail fell in June.
Kern said the district will receive $921,000 in insurance compensation.
At the high school, much of the slate tiles have been removed from the north gym, Kern said. Once that process is competed, a water and ice membrane will be installed to prevent water infiltration. Other slate work at the building has been finished and crews are awaiting a shipment of purple slate to complete the project.
Kern said work at Windermere is expected to be completed by the end of the week.
