This Day in Buffalo Sports History

Oct. 7, 1986 -- Ric Seiling's time with the Sabres came to an end, as he was traded to the Red Wings for future considerations. Seiling had a nice career in Buffalo after being taken in the first round of the 1977 draft. His biggest problem from the fans' point of view was that he wasn't Mike Bossy. The Sabres passed over Bossy, a future Hall of Famer, to take Seiling. Punch Imlach said in his book that the Sabres didn't need scoring at that point, and that Seiling was a fine two-way player. Imlach wasn't wrong, but no doubt he might have found a place for Bossy somewhere.
