Local advertising executive Janet Stanek was a "boss on a billboard" last year in the cause of charity.
Today, she plans to rally for donations from a rooftop.
Stanek plans to climb atop the roof of West Herr Chevrolet on Southwestern Boulevard in Orchard Park at 6 a.m. and stay there until seven trucks are filled with donations to Goodwill of Western New York. The president of Stand Advertising is becoming very familiar with heights -- even though she admits they make her queasy.
In October 2007, Stanek went 50 feet in the air to stand on a billboard along the Niagara Thruway for 30 hours and raise $27,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
At least the sign provided some measure of protection. On the roof, "it's 360 degrees of total wind velocity," said Stanek, who did a test run last week.
She will climb 30 to 35 feet high this time around.
She does not know how long she will have to stay outside.
"I'm hoping I'm home at some point [tonight], but I'll be up there as long as it takes," she said.
Stanek agreed to fill seven trucks in recognition of Stand's seventh anniversary as an ad agency.
Clothes and household items for donation may be dropped off at: West Herr Chevrolet, 3575 Southwestern Blvd., Orchard Park; West Herr Ford, 10 Campbell Blvd., Amherst; and Tops Markets at Niagara Falls Boulevard at East Robinson Road, Amherst; Maple Road at North Bailey Avenue, Amherst; Maple Road at Transit Road, Amherst; McKinley Parkway at Southwestern Boulevard, Hamburg; and Ridge Road at Orchard Park Road, West Seneca.
