Inside the News: In response to Susan Schulman's blog on top cops' generous pensions, and whether they should be able to pad their pensions with overtime, terrordactyl posted this:
Do cops deserve these pensions? Absolutely. . . . Life expectancy after retirement is usually short. Who do u call when someone wrongs u? How many hats does a cop have to wear in his profession, first aider, social worker etc. . . . Most of the sheriffs who are in the 100K club are jail guards who earn it by living in the jail and don't have a life outside work, so pay police what they deserve, including in retirement. They earned it.
ick of it added this:
How many taxi drivers, pizza delivery and corner store workers get robbed or killed on the job? Where's their pension?? Cops and teachers aren't the only ones who work hard or have a dangerous job!!!!!!!!
MoneySmart: Samantha Maziarz Christmann's blog on an anticipated corporate bailout by government elicited this response from Mark:
It is not the corporate fat cats that just get hurt, investors who placed their money in blue chip companies are also getting hurt. How stupid can the House be, to debate something on Monday and not come back til Thursday. Why didn't [Nancy] Pelosi wait til Thursday just in case it blew up? Now we have three more days for it to fall farther. People will be pointing fingers until banks start failing on a daily basis!
Sully on Sports: Jerry Sullivan's blog on the Buffalo Bills' chances of making the playoffs brought several comments, including this one from Matt:
Bills fever, catch it! Even a hardened cynic like myself has to admit this is looking like a good ball club. There's plenty of time to mess things up and the [Roscoe] Parrish injury could be trouble. But I have to somewhat agree with C: the schedule appears VERY favorable, though very few games in the NFL prove to be "cake." The Bills should be able to fight through to at least 9-7. Ten and six is a reasonable expectation.
ArtsBeat: Mary Kunz Goldman's observation about the start of a 10th season for Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra Music Director JoAnn Falletta brought several appreciative comments, including this from W. R. Clay:
Always a pleasure to hear JoAnn's name mentioned in the same sentence as the BPO while . . . here in our new home in Denver. We miss Buffalo, but still feel connected to what we think is one of the best orchestras in the country. Keep up the good work, and JoAnn, may another decade pass with you at the helm. . . .
