Theatre Alliance of Buffalo members join Theatre Communications Group's fourth annual national event, "Free Night of Theater," in the month of October and early November. Participating members will offer tickets to a performance completely free of charge to give theatergoers the opportunity to attend live theater. Local participating theaters include: Alleyway Theatre, Theatre Plus, Kavinoky Theatre, Irish Classical Theatre Company, Theatre of Youth, Road Less Traveled Productions and MusicalFare. Buffalo Movie-Video Makers has announced its annual "Shorty Contest." Original, noncommercial productions on DVD, no longer than five minutes including title and credits, will premiere on screen and be judged by members at their October meeting, which takes place at 7 p.m. Oct. 12 in the Screening Room Cinema, 3131 Sheridan Drive, Amherst. The donation is $18 per entrant; student rate, $7. Members' entries are free. Mailed entries must be received by Wednesday. The Candy Cane Lane holiday craft show in the Newfane United Methodist Church is seeking crafts persons to display and sell their work. The show will be take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Dec. 5.
