Man who offered candy sought in Orchard Park

Orchard Park police were investigating a report that a man offering candy had approached a 10-year-old boy at about 6 p.m. Monday in the Park Manor subdivision off Jewett-Holmwood Road, between Transit Road and the Orchard Park County Club.

Police said the man called to the child, saying he had heard it was the boy's birthday.

The man was described as white; 5 feet, 10 inches tall; weighing about 200 pounds with a mole the size of a pencil eraser above his right eye. He also had a tan complexion, eyebrows darker than the hair on his head and a five o'clock shadow.

He was wearing a black, fuzzy-type, long-sleeve jacket or zippered sweat shirt; a white T-shirt, tan khakis with a dark colored belt and a silver belt buckle.

The van was covered in rust spots and possibly had tinted windows. Call Orchard Park police at 662-6444.
