Sean Smiley can flat-out shoot it but the Bulls still need someone who can flat-out run the offense, and settling on that individual might turn into a season-long project.
Rodney Pierce appeared to have the point guard position in hand in hand after his performance against South Florida. But he was thrown way out of synch in the loss at Niagara and pulled only 15 minutes against Tulane. Byron Mulkey got the big minutes (26) against the Green Wave, but those seven turnovers stand out like a sledgehammered thumb.
More curious yet is what's up with Andy Robinson and Greg Gamble, who looked ready to make an offensive impact after lighting up the Empire State Games. The Bulls are in dire need of Gamble to improve the scoring bunch of a unseasoned and tentative front court. Meanwhile, Robinson continues groping for his offensive game.
Don't get me wrong. That was a quality win over Tulane. But this team has to make a lot more progress before conference play begins.
