For the seventh year in a row, Buffalo's hundreds of artists' studios -- normally private sanctuaries for the sculptors and painters of our region -- will join area galleries to open their doors to visitors.
More than 100 artists and galleries will participate in this year's "Holiday Open Studios and Galleries" event from 5 to 9 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m Saturday and Sunday. Sculptors, jewelry makers, glassblowers and painters will make their work spaces available, often in clusters at predetermined spots along Elmwood Avenue and sometimes in their own homes. Visitors are encouraged to ask artists about their work and explore the creative spaces where their art comes together.
The open studios affair, modeled after similar events in Toronto and Los Angeles and aimed at increasing interest and commercial traffic in local art, is sponsored by the local artist advocacy group Artists in Buffalo. For more information, visit www.artistsinbuffalo.org or call 881-2199.
