The 27th annual Buffalo Music Awards will honor some of our area's finest musicians in a broad variety of genres on Thursday evening inside the Coyote's/Rock 'n' Roll Heaven complex in Depew.
Though the presentation of awards is the nominal reason for the annual BMA show, make no mistake -- the event celebrates live music by offering a well-paced program of sets from former winners, present nominees, and longtime hall of famers alike. This year is no exception to this long-standing rule. Hit 'n' Run, which bills itself as "Buffalo's premier party band," is no stranger to the BMAs. The seven-piece ensemble has claimed the "Top Rock Band" honors for the past six years running. Last time around, the group added "Best Classic Rock Band" and "Best Group Vocals" trophies to its collective mantel.
The Boys of Summer are also previous BMA winners, as are "Top Original Rock Band" and "Top Recording" honorees McCarthyizm, three-time "Best Country Band" winners Bareback Jack and 2005 "Top New Band" victors the Rev.
Winners are chosen in part based on votes tallied through Night Life Magazine's Web site, with balloting open to members of the general public and industry types alike. This year's response is said to have been incredibly strong.
