Rev. Arsen Bell, longtime pastor of State Tabernacle Church
Feb. 29, 1928 -- Nov. 21, 2007

The Rev. Arsen Bell, pastor of State Tabernacle Church of God in Christ since 1953, died last Wednesday at his home in Buffalo. He was 79.

Mr. Bell was born in Starkville, Miss., and moved to Buffalo in 1944. He attained only an elementary school education but educated himself in other ways.

He started out in 1954 as a deacon at State Tabernacle, which was founded by his late uncle and aunt, Elder Robert and Mother Charlotte Brown, before he was ordained a minister and later became pastor of the church.

Mr. Bell also served as superintendent of the 9th District of the First Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of Western New York of the Churches of God in Christ for more than 35 years.

He was the widower of Geneva Jones Bell, whom he married June 30, 1951.

Mr. Bell is survived by four sons, John, Arsell Jr., Anthony and Randolph; four daughters, Gayle Seymore, Delores, Denise and Cynthia; and a sister, Mary Vanderbuilt.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Prince of Peace Church of God in Christ, 669 Kensington Ave.
