Gill to Washington State?

While we're awaiting word on the Nebraska coaching search, which has become a state's obsession, UB coach Turner Gill's name is one of many that's being tossed around at Washington State.

Washington State is an odd fit considering Gill doesn't have any ties to the West Coast, but he didn't have any ties to the Northeast, either, and he's made it work. And Gill should be considered for other jobs as well.

People will look at Gill's 7-17 career record and ask what the fuss is all about? Because he took over the worst Division I-A program in the country and guided the Bulls to its best I-A finish in 2007. No one should underestimate how bad UB was when Gill was hired.

People will say he's not at a BCS school. Then what was he doing at Nebraska for 13 years? They will say he hasn't served as a coordinator, but he was the offensive coordinator last season and the Bulls broke numerous school records.

Gill is ready to lead Nebraska or any other BCS school that comes calling.
