>Fire company to update communications system
A federal homeland security grant of $78,843 was awarded to the Marilla Fire Company through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program awards for 2007.
Chief Ron Bourgeois said the funds will be used for a communications system overhaul for the fire company and the Town of Marilla, purchasing portable and mobile radios and personal alert pagers that work on a dedicated high-band frequency used by emergency services.
The grant was secured by Rep. Brian Higgins, D-Buffalo. Marilla Fire Company has 56 active members.
