> Prayer service

St. Rose of Lima Church, 500 Parker Ave., will host an Advent Taize prayer service at 7 p.m. Dec. 6.

Taize is an ecumenical service for all ages that includes Scripture readings, music, prayer and meditation. Call 834-6688 for details.

> Advent concert

Soloist George Miller will kick off the season of Advent with a concert in South Park United Methodist Church, 73 Ashton Place, during the 10:30 a.m. worship service Dec. 2. Miller will share his experiences about his latest mission trip.

> Closing Mass

The closing Mass of St. Stephen parish, 193 Elk St., will be at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

On Dec. 2, St. Stephen will merge with SS. Rita & Patrick, Holy Apostles, SS. Peter & Paul, St. Valentine and Precious Blood to form St. Clare Parish Community.

The merged parish will be located in the Elk Street church.

> Celebration Mass

St. James Catholic Church, 10 Hastings Ave., will offer a Mass for the feast of Christ the King with the theme "Celebrating Our Past & Present and Looking to the Future" at 10 a.m. Sunday.

To continue the legacy of the parish, which is merging in January with two other parishes, a collection will be taken to support the St. Augustine and St. Monica Scholars programs of Catholic Central Middle School. Call 834-5601 for more information.

> Lecture on Monday

"Catholic Social Teaching in a Troubled World," a lecture by William Marx, member of the Diocese of Buffalo Peace and Justice Commission and founder of the Western New York chapter of Pax Christi, will be given at 7 p.m. Monday in Blessed Sacrament Church, 1029 Delaware Ave. at West Utica Street. Admission is free and parking is available behind the Catholic Academy of West Buffalo. Call 885-5168 for information.

> Cathedral liturgy

Bishop Edward U. Kmiec will be the main celebrant at the Celebration of Family Life Liturgy at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 2 in St. Joseph Cathedral, 50 Franklin St.

Music and singing will begin at 10:15 a.m. A procession of three generations, which range in age from 2 months to adulthood, from the Deacon Frank and Barbara Shaughnessy family will start the Mass.

Children from the SS. Peter and Paul Children and Youth Choir in Williamsville will join the Cathedral Choir.

Also, a Sudanese choir from Holy Cross and Our Lady of Loretto parishes in Buffalo will sing in Arabic, there will be readings and responses in Spanish and Sicilian. Following the Mass, Kmiec will bless families.
