Wandering whitetails are not welcome within Dunkirk's city limits.
Citing several complaints, City Council President James Muscato spotlighted the problem at Tuesday night's Council meeting by warning residents to stop feeding deer.
Dunkirk Police Chief David Ortolano confirmed the complaints, which were turned over to the state Department of Environmental Conservation.
He also noted that hunting is illegal within city limits and advised sportsmen to stay away.
Police also have received complaints about deer running into traffic, rooting in garbage and hunting for food in yards.
Residents will be sent letters warning them not to feed wild animals, Muscato said.
In other matters:
* Public meetings on the 2008 budget will continue at 7 p.m. Monday, with an open session on the spending plan.
* Residents were reminded to clear leaves and brush from their properties.
Anyone unable to haul the materials to the city recycling station was urged to call the Department of Public Works for a pickup.
