Woman hurt in theft of purse on Summer St.
A Summer Street woman was dragged to the ground Sunday night when she fought with a robber stealing her purse, Buffalo police said.
The woman suffered bruises and cuts on her left palm and right hip.
Central District police said the man ran up to the victim at about 11:30 p.m. in her driveway and said, "I'm gonna need that bag."
Police said the woman fought with the man, who dragged her while trying to take the black purse.
He fled with the purse, containing six credit cards and a cell phone, police said, but first asked the woman if she was OK.
Drunken man awakens to find SUV stolen
A Depew man visiting a Buffalo bar over the weekend became so intoxicated that he awoke in a burned-out vacant home and discovered that his SUV had been stolen, police reported.
The man told Ferry-Fillmore District police on Sunday that he was at a bar, possibly on Clinton Street or Howard Street, where he was intoxicated.
The man "encountered an unknown naked female" who stole his green Ford Explorer, according to police.
Officers reported that the man did not remember what happened when he awoke Sunday in a burned-out, vacant house.
Lockport police arrest teen suspect in slaying
A Rochester boy, 16, pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder Monday in Rochester City Court following his arrest in Lockport Saturday night, Rochester police reported.
Lockport police arrested Deshequan L. Nathan, of Pierpont Street, Rochester, after Rochester police notified them that a man wanted in connection with a shooting had fled in a sport utility vehicle registered to a Lockport resident.
Police believe Nathan shot Christopher Jones, 16, once in the chest earlier Saturday night after an argument in Rochester, said Rochester Officer Deidre Taccone.
Nathan then fled to Lockport in a 2002 GMC Envoy, police reported.
Lockport Officer Travis Mapes stopped the SUV after he saw it turn into a driveway on Park Place at about 9:40 p.m.
Lt. Douglas Haak then secured Nathan and the driver, a Lockport woman who was not charged. No charges were filed against a third passenger stopped after a brief foot chase.
Rochester police officers arrived in Lockport a short time later and charged Nathan with second-degree murder.
Jones was pronounced dead in Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester.
Ashville hunter hurt in accidental shooting
DUNKIRK -- An Ashville man returning home from a hunting trip apparently accidentally shot himself in the arm Sunday.
Michael Mardino, no age given, was hurt after a shotgun that was in the back seat of a vehicle he was riding in accidentally went off. The incident occurred Sunday morning on the Thruway near Exit 59.
State Police said Mardino was reaching back to move a tote bag that apparently had became caught in the trigger. The gun discharged, hitting Mardino in the arm, just below the elbow.
Mardino was flown by Starflight to Erie County Medical Center, Buffalo, where he was admitted.
Mom a no-show at trial, so accused son goes free
LOCKPORT -- Charges against a man accused of stealing $1,300 from his mother's bank account were dismissed Monday when the mother failed to appear to testify at a nonjury trial.
Niagara County Judge Sara Sheldon Sperrazza granted a defense motion to throw out the charges against Jason A. Dangelo, 36, of West Caledonia Street.
Dangelo had been indicted on fourth-degree grand larceny and second-degree identity theft charges. He allegedly used his mother's credit card to make several unauthorized withdrawals around Mother's Day.
Assistant District Attorney Brian E. Seaman said a material witness warrant had been issued and Lockport Police had been looking unsuccessfully for the woman for nearly two weeks.
